Hi — My name is Michelle Surtees. I am an author, speaker, and the creator of the Courage to Communicate model, a practical and relationship-centered framework for engaging in meaningful conversations with children. I am also a university instructor in the field of child and youth care and I hold a British Columbia Independent School Teaching Certificate. I combine academic knowledge with extensive frontline experience supporting children and families in complex contexts. A mother of three, I bring warmth, optimism, and authenticity to my work, along with a deep commitment to empathy, storytelling, and connection, and a love of baking cookies.
I write from my home on Vancouver Island, BC, where I live with my husband and three children.
